About Nettle
Principles
nettle believes that the Customer may not always be right, but the User is Always Right. nettle is about Experience Design --- design that affects how you see, hear, touch, feel, taste, smell, walk, run, push, shove, search, browse, buy, sell, and point and click your way through the world. It's about the interplay of customers and companies, and what each thinks of the other. It's about evaluating businesses, products, and services based on time-tested design principles, a dose of common sense, and the Cluetrain Manifesto. It's not afraid to criticize, but it strives to do so responsibly and constructively.

History
nettle was founded in 1995 as yet another venture of Birdrock Ventures in La Jolla, CA. The site originally launched in 1997, as a genuine blog (very early in the blog game) but other projects got in the way, five years passed, and here we are in 2002. Better late than never!

Submissions
nettle welcomes well-written, thoughtful essays from guest bloggers. Text should be in the same form as existing articles on the site: narratives and observations about the design of experience, the experience of design. We can't pay anything if we decide to include your essay on the site, but if we do include it, we'll include a link to your blog/site (and hope you'll do the same!).

Who's At the Wheel?
nettle is edited and published by Brian Dear, who has over 20 years' experience in UI/usability/creative design, online strategy, and development and deployment of software applications and online communities. Most recently he was founding Director of eBay Design Labs, an organization responsible for creating the best user experience for tens of millions of eBay users. Prior to eBay, he worked at Eazel, MP3.com, RealNetworks, Flatworks, and Coconut Computing. He can be reached via email at: brian at nettle.com

Tools Used
This blog started out as raw HTML edited in a "vi" editor, but as of late April 2003, it's now running through MovableType. Content is created, edited, and maintained using applications running in MacOS X on a Macintosh G4 machine.
